Moving Day Prep Checklist

• Declutter and sort belongings Charity, sell, bin, keep - decide for everything
• Get removal quotes Get 2-3 quotes, book early (especially for end of month)
• Book end-of-tenancy cleaners If using professionals - book for after you've emptied
• Set up Royal Mail redirect Allows 3-12 months, do it early
• Start notifying organisations Bank, DVLA, doctor, dentist, subscriptions, etc.
• Arrange utility transfers/cancellations Gas, electric, water, broadband, council tax
• Update home insurance New address, cancel old policy

• Disassemble large furniture Beds, wardrobes, desks - bag and label all bolts/screws
• Remove wall-mounted TV Keep bracket if taking with you
• Take down curtain poles/blinds (if taking) Check contract - may need to leave/replace
• Remove shelving you're taking Note: holes will need filling
• Prep washing machine Run empty cycle, drain filter, disconnect hoses
• Prep dishwasher Run empty cycle, turn off water, disconnect
• Start using up freezer contents Plan meals around what's in there
• Photograph everything for disassembly reference Useful when reassembling at new place

• Fill all picture hook holes
• Fill rawlplug holes (TV mount, shelves, mirrors)
• Touch up paint where filled If you have matching paint
• Repair any scuff marks or damage
• Check all door handles work
• Ensure all doors close properly
• Fix any floor damage
• Defrost freezer 24-48 hours before moving - mop up water
• Confirm movers - time and both addresses
• Confirm key collection for new property

• Pack essentials box (load last, unload first) Kettle, mugs, toilet roll, phone chargers, snacks, basic tools
• Keep valuables with you Documents, jewellery, laptop, medication
• Pack overnight bag if needed
• Set out cleaning supplies If cleaning after movers leave
• Charge all phones/devices
• Check freezer fully defrosted and dry

• Walk through EVERY room before van leaves Including loft, garage, shed, behind doors
• Check ALL cupboards and storage
• Open ALL drawers
• Check garden shed/garage
• Check loft

Meter Readings (Photo + Write Down)

• Turn off water at stopcock If property will be empty
• Turn off gas at meter If property will be empty
• Set heating to frost protection If winter
• Check all windows closed and locked
• Cancel any alarm monitoring

• Gather ALL keys Front, back, windows, meter cupboard, shed, garage, spare sets
• Leave appliance manuals and warranties
• Leave heating/alarm instructions
• Leave boiler service records
• Leave any relevant certificates Electrical, gas safety, etc.
• Leave bin day information
• Leave your forwarding address For any stray mail
• Take final photos of property condition Evidence if any disputes arise
• Hand over keys as arranged
