Bank holiday and emergency work available when you really need it. Standard work at 50% premium - only book if it genuinely can't wait.
When You Really Can't Wait
Most jobs can wait until normal working days. But sometimes stuff happens on bank holidays that genuinely needs sorting now. Pipe burst, door won't lock, something essential broken. That's what this service is for - not routine jobs that could easily wait.
💡 Pro tip: If you're calling on a bank holiday, ask yourself: "Will waiting 1-2 days make this significantly worse?" If not, wait and save the surcharge.
What Costs Extra
The labor, not the materials:
| Item | Normal Rate | Bank Holiday Rate |
|---|---|---|
| First hour | £60 | £90 |
| Additional hours | £50/hr | £75/hr |
| Materials | Cost price | Cost price |

📦 Booking Priority
Genuine emergencies get priority over routine jobs. If you're calling about something non-urgent on a bank holiday, be prepared to wait or book for next working day.

🔧 DIY Tips
Before calling anyone out on bank holiday rates:
🔧 Temporary fixes to try
- Water leak - turn off stopcock, contain the water
- Broken lock - barricade door, ask neighbor to keep eye
- Electrical issue - turn off at consumer unit
- Roof damage - tarpaulin temporarily if you can safely access
📐 Emergency kit to keep
- Stopcock key
- Basic tools
- Tarps and rope
- Torch and batteries
- Emergency plumber/electrician numbers
⚠️ When to call immediately
- Gas leak - call gas emergency number, not me
- Electrical fire risk - call electrician or 999
- Structural damage - could collapse
- Water you can't control - will cause serious damage
💡 Pro trick: Many emergencies happen because regular maintenance was skipped. Service your boiler, check your roof, test your stopcock occasionally. Prevents a lot of bank holiday panics.
Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.
Good to Know
🎨 Not all bank holidays are equal - I'm more likely to be available for random weekday ones than Christmas or Easter when I've got family commitments. Call and ask, but don't be surprised if I'm not available.
Other options? For true emergencies, try emergency plumbers/electricians who specialize in callouts. They're set up for 24/7 work. I do bank holidays as a favor to existing customers, not as my main service.
Regular customer? If you've used me before and it's a genuine emergency, I'll do my best to help even on bank holidays. New customers with non-urgent jobs might get asked to wait.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why the 50% surcharge?
Because I'd rather be spending bank holidays with my family, same as you. The surcharge compensates for giving up that time. It's standard across most trades - plumbers, electricians, everyone charges extra for bank holidays.
What counts as a bank holiday?
Official UK bank holidays - New Year's Day, Easter, May Day, Spring Bank Holiday, Summer Bank Holiday, Christmas Day, Boxing Day. Plus the occasional extra one the government throws in for jubilees or whatever.
Do you actually work all bank holidays?
Not always - depends on bookings and what I've got planned. For genuine emergencies I'll try to help. For non-urgent stuff, it's often better (and cheaper for you) to wait until the next working day.
Is the surcharge on top of everything?
Yes - it's 50% extra on my standard hourly rate. So £60 minimum becomes £90, additional hours at £75 instead of £50. Materials stay the same price - I'm not marking those up.
What's classed as an emergency?
Water leak you can't stop, security issue leaving property vulnerable, something that's causing damage or danger if left. Things that genuinely can't wait. If it can wait, it probably should - save yourself the surcharge money.
