Anyone can open a tin of paint, but proper decorating is about preparation. Filling holes, sanding surfaces, masking edges, priming where needed - this prep work is what separates a professional finish from a DIY disaster. We take time to prepare properly, use quality paints, and deliver clean, lasting results. From single feature walls to complete room makeovers, exterior woodwork to fence treatments.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?
Sam believes in doing prep work properly. He'll fill, sand, prime and mask before any paint goes on. The result is clean lines, even coverage, and a finish that lasts.

Common Questions About Painting
Can you treat my old shed or is it too late?
Old sheds are fine as long as the wood is still solid. I'll check for rot first - soft, punky wood needs replacing, not treating. If the timber is sound but just weathered and grey, treatment brings it back to life and protects it going forward.
Can you match the paint to my existing woodwork?
If you've got the paint tin or know the colour, easy. If not, I can usually get close with standard whites (Brilliant White, Pure Brilliant White, etc.). For exact matches on unusual colours, you'd need to get a colour match done at a paint shop - I can advise on that.
How long will the paint last before I need to do it again?
Quality fence paint properly applied lasts 4-6 years in Devon's weather. South-facing fences fade faster, shaded ones last longer. The paint protection lasts even if the colour fades - you're mainly repainting for appearance.
Can you match the colour to my existing woodwork in other rooms?
If you know the paint colour or have the tin, easy. If not, I can get close with standard whites (Brilliant White, Pure Brilliant White, etc.) but exact matching of unknown colours needs a colour match service at a paint shop. For custom colours, bring me a sample.
Will the paint last or just chip off?
If it's done right with proper prep and the right products, it lasts for years. I sand everything, use primer, apply quality furniture paint, and seal it. This isn't slapping emulsion on - it's a proper durable finish that handles daily use.
Can you paint my old shed or does it need to be new?
Old sheds are fine to paint - often better than new because the wood is dry and stable. I just need to prep it properly first. Flaking old paint gets scraped off, bare wood gets primed, and any rotten bits need sorting before I start painting over them.
