Anyone can open a tin of paint, but proper decorating is about preparation. Filling holes, sanding surfaces, masking edges, priming where needed - this prep work is what separates a professional finish from a DIY disaster. We take time to prepare properly, use quality paints, and deliver clean, lasting results. From single feature walls to complete room makeovers, exterior woodwork to fence treatments.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?
Sam believes in doing prep work properly. He'll fill, sand, prime and mask before any paint goes on. The result is clean lines, even coverage, and a finish that lasts.

Common Questions About Painting
Can you paint over pebbledash or rough render?
Yes - pebbledash just needs more paint because there's more surface area. Rough render is actually easier to paint than smooth (hides imperfections better). I use thick masonry paint designed for textured surfaces. It takes longer but the results are good.
Can I drive on it and will it hold up to a car?
Absolutely - that's the whole point. Once fully cured (about 5-7 days), it handles car traffic no problem. I use proper garage floor paint designed for this, not regular floor paint that would wear off in weeks.
What about the bits I can't reach behind plants and shrubs?
I'll paint what's accessible. If you've got massive shrubs right against the fence, we either work around them or you can trim them back before I come. I'm not a gardener, so I won't be pruning your plants!
Can you paint over my old gloss paint?
Yes, but it needs proper prep. Light sand to key the surface, wipe clean, then undercoat if changing colour drastically. You can't just slap new gloss over old - it'll peel off within months. Proper prep takes time but that's what makes it last.
How long does fascia paint last?
5-8 years typically, depending on weather exposure and paint quality. South-facing gets more sun damage, north-facing stays damp longer. Regular cleaning (brush down the cobwebs and moss) helps paint last longer. When it starts looking shabby or flaking, time to repaint.
What's the process - removal or overskim?
Depends on the artex depth and your ceiling condition. Shallow patterns get skimmed over. Deep swirls or if the ceiling's damaged underneath might need removal first, then fresh plaster. I'll advise what's best when I see it - sometimes the 'proper' removal isn't worth the extra mess and cost.
