Gutter Cleaning FAQ

Everything you need to know about our professional gutter cleaning service. Can't find your answer? Give us a call.

The Service

We use a commercial-grade Kiam CYCLONE 3600W vacuum with carbon fibre poles that extend up to 12 metres. The poles reach the gutter from the ground, and the vacuum sucks all the debris straight into a 76-litre tank. A pole-mounted camera lets us see directly into the gutter as we work, so we know every section is clear before we move on.

Most homes take under an hour. A small terrace might be 30-45 minutes, a large detached property around 1.5 hours. Commercial buildings vary depending on size and access. We're noticeably faster than ladder-based cleaning because there's no setup or climbing time.

No. We work entirely from outside. As long as we can access the perimeter of your property with the trolley-mounted vacuum, we don't need to come inside at all.

Every downpipe is checked and water-tested where possible. If we find a blockage, we'll clear it as part of the service. If a downpipe is structurally damaged or needs to be removed to clear a serious blockage, we'll quote for any extra work before doing it.

Most homes benefit from an annual clean - typically autumn after the leaves have fallen. Properties surrounded by trees, or those with moss-prone roofs, often need twice a year. We can recommend a schedule based on your property.

Safety & Equipment

Massively. Ladder falls are one of the most common DIY injuries in the UK, and gutter cleaning is one of the leading causes. Our technicians never leave the ground - which means zero fall risk, no walking on roofs, and no damage to fragile tiles or fascia boards.

Commercial vacuums clear gutters more thoroughly than hand-scooping ever could. They suck out compacted moss, wet leaves, and silt that ladders simply leave behind. They're also faster, safer, and don't drop debris onto your driveway, patio, or windows.

Yes. We carry full public liability insurance for all gutter cleaning work. Proof of insurance is available on request.

No. The Kiam CYCLONE is mounted on an all-terrain trolley designed to roll over gravel, lawn, paving, and uneven garden access without damage. We're careful to position the vacuum where it doesn't crush plants or block paths.

Our carbon poles reach up to 12 metres, which covers most three-storey homes. For unusually high gutters or restricted access, we can combine the vacuum service with a drone inspection so you get a complete view of what's up there.

Pricing

Our prices start at £85 for a bungalow, £95 for a small terraced property, £120 for a semi-detached, and £160 for a detached home. Larger properties and commercial buildings start from £200. Every quote is fixed - no hidden extras.

No. The price you're quoted includes everything - travel within our coverage area, the full clean, downpipe checks, and before/after photos. No callout fee, no minimum charge surprises.

We're not VAT registered, so the price you're quoted is the price you pay. No extra 20% on top.

Yes. If you own multiple properties (landlord portfolio, neighbour group bookings, multi-unit commercial), we offer reduced rates for properties booked together. Get in touch with details and we'll put a quote together.

We offer combined gutter cleaning and pressure washing packages at a reduced rate. It's the most efficient way to refresh the whole exterior in one visit.

Property Types

Yes. We work on offices, shops, warehouses, pubs, multi-unit buildings, and rural commercial properties. The Kiam CYCLONE is ideal for the larger debris loads commercial buildings tend to accumulate. See our commercial page for details.

Yes - and the vacuum approach is particularly useful here because it avoids the tile-damage risks of walking on conservatory roofs or leaning ladders against fragile structures.

We work with landlords across Exeter, handling single rentals to multi-property portfolios. We can liaise directly with tenants for access, send photo evidence after each clean, and invoice you on a schedule that works for your business.

Yes. The vacuum approach is especially well-suited to thatched, timber-framed, or listed properties where ladder damage would be a serious concern. Always best to chat through your specific property first.

After the Clean

Yes. We send before and after photos of every clean, so you can see exactly what was in the gutters and confirm they're now clear. It's particularly useful for landlords and commercial customers needing maintenance records.

We offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If something we cleaned starts overflowing again within 30 days, we'll come back and reclear it free of charge. Issues caused by structural damage or fresh debris drops are quoted separately, but we'll always tell you what we find.

Often, yes. Our pole-mounted camera lets us see things ladder cleaners might miss - sagging brackets, joint leaks, loose downpipes, missing roof tiles near the gutter. We'll flag anything we notice and tell you whether it needs urgent action.

Sometimes. Minor adjustments and re-securing brackets we can often do on the day. Larger repairs or replacement sections we'll quote separately. Hembury Contracting handles everything from minor fixes to full gutter replacement.
