Whiteboards and dry wipe boards fitted level to your wall. I mount them securely using proper fixings for your wall type.

Why Wonky Whiteboards Drive People Mad

A whiteboard that's not level is surprisingly annoying. Your eye knows something's wrong even if you can't immediately tell what.

Plus if it's mounted with cheap fixings or in the wrong place, it'll pull out of the wall within months. Heavy boards on plasterboard with just the supplied screws? Recipe for disaster.

💡 Pro tip: Whiteboards are heavier than you think, especially large ones. The fixings that come with them are often inadequate for plasterboard walls. I'll use proper wall plugs or toggles that actually hold.

What to Expect

Step 1: Position Discussion

We look at the wall and discuss where you want it. I'll advise on height - too low and you're crouching, too high and you can't reach the top.

Step 2: Careful Marking

Mark the exact position using a spirit level. This is the critical step - get this wrong and everything's wrong.

Step 3: Drill and Mount

Drill holes using correct bit size. Fit proper wall plugs or toggles. Mount board, check it's still level, tighten everything securely.

🔧 DIY Tips

This is easy enough DIY if you're methodical:

🔧 Tools needed

  • Spirit level (longer is better)
  • Drill and correct drill bit
  • Tape measure and pencil
  • Screwdriver or driver bit

📏 Getting it level

  1. Work out where you want the board
  2. Mark one mounting hole position
  3. Use spirit level to mark second hole position
  4. Check, check again, then drill
  5. If there are four holes, mark top two first, fit board loosely, then mark bottom two

🔨 Wall fixing tips

  • Plasterboard: Use proper plasterboard toggles or anchor bolts, NOT just screws
  • Solid walls: Drill, insert wall plug, screw into plug
  • Don't over-tighten - you'll crack the board backing

⚠️ Common DIY mistakes

  • Marking holes without a spirit level - wonky board guaranteed
  • Using supplied screws in plasterboard - pulls out within weeks
  • Drilling holes too small or too large - fixings don't work properly
  • Measuring from ceiling or floor - neither is level in old houses

💡 Pro trick: For really large boards, get someone to hold it in position while you mark. Trying to do it alone with a heavy board is how you end up with wonky mounting holes.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🏠 Plasterboard walls: These need proper toggles or cavity anchors. The little plastic plugs that come with boards aren't enough - they'll pull straight through plasterboard.

Multiple boards? Doing several in one go makes sense - I'm already there with tools and can get them all level to each other.

Magnetic whiteboards: Much heavier than standard dry wipe boards. Need more/stronger fixings. Let me know which type you've got.

Pen trays: If your board came with a separate pen tray, I'll fit that level at the bottom. Surprising how many people get the board level but the tray wonky.

Glass boards: These are really heavy and expensive. Absolutely worth having fitted properly - if they fall they shatter into very expensive pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you make sure it's level?

Spirit level and careful marking before I drill anything. A wonky whiteboard is really obvious in daily use and drives people mad. Getting it level is the whole point of having someone fit it properly.

Can you fit it to any wall?

Most walls yes. Plasterboard needs proper wall anchors, solid walls are straightforward. I'll check what fixings your board came with and upgrade them if they're not suitable for your wall type.

Do I need to buy the whiteboard first?

Yes - I fit boards you've already got. If you haven't bought one yet, I can advise on size and what to look for, but you'll need to purchase it yourself.

What about very large boards?

Larger boards (over about 1.5m) are heavier and need more fixings. They're also harder to get level. Takes a bit longer but definitely doable. Just let me know the size when you book.

Can you fit magnetic boards too?

Yes - exactly the same process. Whether it's dry wipe, magnetic, or combination boards, the fitting method is identical.
