Garden mirror hung securely on your fence or wall - positioned right, level, using proper outdoor fixings. Creates that illusion of space and bounces light around your garden.

Why Garden Mirrors Work

Because they trick the eye into thinking your garden's bigger than it is. A well-positioned mirror creates depth, reflects greenery, and bounces light into darker corners.

💡 Pro tip: Position mirrors to reflect your best plants or garden features, not your shed or bins. You're creating an illusion - make it a good one.

What to Expect

Step 1: Position Discussion

We'll work out the best position - what view you want reflected, height for your viewpoint, avoiding direct sun if possible (can create dazzling reflections).

Step 2: Mark & Fix Brackets

Level marks made, brackets fixed securely to fence posts or wall (not just the panel surface - needs proper support).

Step 3: Hang & Check

Mirror mounted, checked for level, tested for security. Should be rock-solid - these need to withstand wind.

🔧 DIY Tips

Want to hang your own garden mirror? Here's how to do it safely:

🔧 Tools you'll need

  • Spirit level
  • Tape measure and pencil
  • Drill with appropriate bits (masonry or wood depending on mounting surface)
  • Screwdriver
  • Rawlplugs or appropriate fixings
  • Someone to help hold the mirror

📐 Hanging method

  1. Choose position - use tape/cardboard cutout to visualize first
  2. Find solid fixing points - fence posts not panels, solid wall not render
  3. Mark bracket positions - use spirit level, measure twice
  4. Drill pilot holes - correct depth for your fixings
  5. Fix brackets securely - these take the weight, must be solid
  6. Hang mirror - ideally with help, check level immediately
  7. Final secure - tighten everything, check it's not going anywhere

⚠️ Common mistakes

  • Mounting on fence panel surface only (rips out in wind)
  • Not using spirit level (wonky mirrors are really obvious)
  • Fixings too small for mirror weight (falls off)
  • Positioning too low/high for viewing angle
  • Reflecting ugly stuff (bins, compost heap, neighbors' garage)

💡 Pro trick: Before drilling holes, temporarily hang the mirror (with help) in the rough position and look at it from where you actually spend time in the garden. What's reflected? Is the angle right? Adjust position before you commit to drilling.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🎨 Multiple mirrors? Creating a mirror wall effect or gallery? Book them all together - I'm already there and can ensure they're all level relative to each other.

Fence mounting - mirror fixings go through panel into fence posts, or into horizontal rails if the mirror's positioned right. This spreads the load and prevents sagging.

Wall mounting - brick/stone walls are straightforward. Rendered walls need longer fixings through to the solid structure behind.

Sun angles - avoid positioning mirrors where they'll reflect low evening/morning sun directly into your eyes when you're sitting out. Gets very annoying.

Frequently Asked Questions

Won't an outdoor mirror break or deteriorate?

Not if it's actually designed for outdoor use. Proper garden mirrors are weatherproof with sealed edges and robust backing. Regular mirrors won't last - the silvering corrodes. Make sure you're buying an actual outdoor mirror.

Where's the best place to position a garden mirror?

Depends what effect you want - either to bounce light into a dark area, create an illusion of more space/depth, or as a focal point. I'll advise based on your garden layout, but generally on a fence or wall opposite your main viewing point works well.

Can you hang a mirror on my fence without damaging it?

Yes - we use appropriate fixings for fence panels (different from wall fixings). The mirror needs secure mounting but we're not putting huge holes everywhere. Fence needs to be sturdy though - wouldn't hang a heavy mirror on a wobbly panel.

What if I haven't bought the mirror yet?

Buy outdoor-specific mirrors, not indoor ones. Check the weight and mounting method - some come with their own brackets, others need general mirror fixings. If you're unsure, send me a link to what you're thinking of buying and I'll advise.

How do you make sure it's level?

Spirit level and careful measuring before drilling anything. Wonky mirrors look terrible and obvious. I'll also make sure it's at a good height/angle for the viewing position.
