Yes - garages are the most common place I fit kayak storage. I mount brackets to the wall studs or directly into blockwork, making sure they're strong enough to take the weight. Position is usually along a side wall so you can still park the car.
Will it damage my kayak?
No - proper kayak brackets are padded or curved to support the hull without creating pressure points. Storing on its side (as the brackets do) is actually better than leaving it on the floor which can cause the hull to warp over time.
How high up the wall do you fit them?
Depends on your ceiling height and how easily you want to lift the kayak, but usually around shoulder height works well. High enough to be out the way, low enough that you can still get it down without a ladder. We'll agree positioning before I drill anything.
