Paddleboards are brilliant fun but terrible for storage - they're huge, awkward, and take up enormous floor space. Wall-mounted or ceiling storage gets them out of the way safely. We install proper paddleboard storage racks and systems that protect your boards and free up garage or shed space.

The problem with paddleboards is simple: they're 10-12 feet long and want to fall over. Leaned in corners, they slide down. Laid on garage floors, they get stepped on or have things stacked on them. Proper storage keeps them safe and accessible.

We install various storage solutions depending on your space, number of boards, and access requirements. Wall-mounted racks are most popular - they hold the board horizontally off the floor. Ceiling hoists work for high garage spaces. Freestanding racks suit situations where wall mounting isn't possible.

Wall-mounted racks are straightforward - two or three brackets mounted to the wall that the board rests on. The critical part is getting them level, spaced correctly for your board width, and securely fixed to studs or solid walls (paddleboards are heavy when you account for leverage).

Ceiling storage uses pulleys or hoists to lift boards up to garage ceilings. Brilliant for saving space but requires good ceiling structure and can be awkward for regular access.

We also install storage for kayaks, surfboards, and other water sports equipment using similar systems.

Protects boards from damage

Secure wall-mounted storage

Easy access when needed

What to Expect

Before we arrive: Measure your boards (length, width, weight if known). Note where you want to store them and measure wall/ceiling space available. Clear the area of other items.

During installation: We'll assess wall construction, mark bracket positions, install storage system with proper fixings, and test with your actual board to ensure secure fit.

After completion: Your paddleboard will be safely stored off the ground, protected from damage, and easily accessible when you want to use it. We'll show you the best way to get boards on and off the racks.

🔧 DIY Tips

Find the studs: For garage/shed walls, use a stud finder. Mounting into studs is essential for supporting paddleboard weight. Plasterboard fixings alone will pull out.

Height matters: Mount racks high enough that you can walk under the stored board but low enough that you can actually lift the board onto them. Usually 6-7 feet off the floor.

Space brackets properly: Brackets should support the board at roughly quarter and three-quarter points along its length. Too close together and the ends sag; too far apart and you don't support the middle properly.

Padding protects: Line rack arms with foam or rubber to prevent scratching board surfaces. Old pipe insulation works perfectly.

When to call us: When you're unsure about wall construction, dealing with heavy inflatable SUPs (heavier than you'd think), or want ceiling storage that requires proper load calculations.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

Tell us what type of boards you have - rigid hard boards, inflatable SUPs, or both. Inflatable boards can often be stored deflated (taking up much less space), but if you want to store them inflated, they need full-size racks.

Rigid paddleboards should be stored on their edge (rail down) or flat, not standing on the tail. Standing storage can damage the tail over time.

SUP paddles also need storage - we can often install paddle hooks as part of the same visit. They're light and just need simple wall hooks.

For multiple boards, think about access. The board you use most should be easiest to reach. Don't store your favorite board behind three others.

Garage door clearance matters if installing ceiling storage. Make sure boards won't interfere with the garage door when it's open.

Some people want their boards displayed in the house (they look good). This is fine but requires more careful installation - you're mounting to internal walls which might be plasterboard, and the racks need to look neat rather than purely functional.

Kayak storage is similar to paddleboard storage but kayaks are heavier and shaped differently. Mention if you're storing both so we bring appropriate brackets.

Security: wall-mounted storage in sheds or garages doesn't prevent theft if someone breaks in. If security is a concern, consider lockable racks or cable locks through the storage system.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does paddleboard storage installation cost?

We charge £60 for the first hour, then £50/hour after. Simple wall-mounted racks for one board take about an hour (£60). Multiple boards or ceiling hoist systems take 1.5-2 hours (£85-110). We'll quote based on your specific storage needs.

Can you install storage for multiple paddleboards?

Yes - we install single board racks, multi-board storage systems, and combined storage for paddleboards, kayaks, and surfboards. We'll design a solution that fits your space and number of boards.

What walls can paddleboard racks be mounted on?

We can mount on brick, concrete, block, and stud walls. For heavy boards or multiple boards, we need solid fixings into studs or masonry. We'll assess your wall construction and use appropriate fixings rated for the weight.

Can paddleboards be stored in garages or do they need to be indoors?

Paddleboards can be stored in garages, sheds, or outdoor storage as long as they're protected from direct weather and UV. The bigger concern is preventing damage from falling over or things being stacked against them.
