We fit the hasp and staple - you supply the padlock. This lets you choose the level of security you want. A basic padlock costs £10-15. Good security padlocks cost £30-50. Heavy-duty padlocks cost £50+. For maximum security, use a closed-shackle padlock (where the shackle is mostly protected). These are harder to cut with bolt croppers. Padlock fitting doesn't make a door impregnable. Determined thieves can still kick doors in or cut through thin wood. Padlocks are a deterrent and slow thieves down - they're not absolute protection. For very high security needs (expensive tools in sheds, etc.), consider additional measures: ground anchors for securing items inside, alarm systems, or upgrading to a proper security door. Hasps come in different sizes. We usually fit 4-6 inch hasps for standard use. Larger hasps (8-10 inches) suit bigger doors or where you want the padlock further from the door edge. Weather affects padlocks - they can freeze in winter or corrode in coastal areas. Consider weatherproof padlocks or fit a cover over the hasp to protect it. For gates that you want to secure but occasionally need to open without unlocking (for deliveries, bin collection), consider a drop-bolt that works with or without a padlock. If you're fitting padlocks to rental property sheds, check your tenancy agreement. Some landlords require specific security measures or forbid modifications. Coach bolts need access from both sides of the door. If you can't access the inside (metal gates, solid doors), we'll use alternative security fixings.
