Safe bolted securely to wall or floor. Hidden in a wardrobe if you want, or accessible in an office - your call.

Keep Your Valuables Actually Secure

A safe is only secure if it's properly bolted down. One that just sits in a cupboard can be picked up and walked out with.

I install home and small office safes across Exeter - mounted to solid walls or floors so they're not going anywhere.

Installation Options

LocationBest ForWhat's Involved
Wall-mountedDocuments, cash, jewelleryBolted to solid wall (brick/block, not plasterboard)
Floor-mountedHeavier items, larger capacityRecessed into floor or bolted on top
Hidden (wardrobe)Maximum securityMounted inside furniture, out of sight
Visible (office)Convenient accessOpenly mounted but secure

What Makes It Secure

Bolted through back - can't be removed without serious tools

Solid wall fixing - brick, block, or concrete (not plasterboard)

Multiple anchor points - usually 4+ heavy-duty bolts

Hidden if you want - behind clothes, in cupboards, etc.

💡 Pro tip: The best safe is one a burglar doesn't know exists. Hidden installations in wardrobes or under floor are far more secure than visible ones.

Advice on best placement

Discreet and professional service

What to Expect

Step 1: Check the Location

I'll confirm the wall or floor is suitable (solid, not hollow). We'll agree exact positioning - height, angle, visibility.

Step 2: Mark & Drill

Mark bolt positions through the safe's mounting holes, drill into wall or floor, fit rawl plugs or anchors.

Step 3: Bolt It Down

Secure the safe with heavy-duty bolts. Test it's solid - shouldn't budge an inch. Clean up any dust.

🔧 DIY Tips

🔧 Can you DIY this?

Technically yes, but it's harder than it looks:

  1. Weight - safes are heavy, awkward to hold level while drilling
  2. Drilling - you need a serious drill for brick/concrete
  3. Getting it square - if it's wonky, the door won't hang right
  4. Rawl plugs - must be the right type for your wall material

Tools you'd need:

  • Hammer drill with masonry bits
  • Spirit level
  • Heavy-duty rawl plugs or anchor bolts
  • Socket set for bolts
  • Someone to help hold it

⚠️ Common DIY mistakes:

  • Mounting to plasterboard (useless - pull the plasterboard off)
  • Not checking for pipes/cables before drilling
  • Using screws instead of proper bolts
  • Drilling holes that don't align (nightmare to fix)

💡 Pro trick: For floor safes, check with a pipe detector first. Last thing you want is to drill into central heating pipes under your floorboards.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🔧 Insurance requirements? Some home insurance policies require safes to be bolted down to be covered. Check your policy - this might not be optional.

Bring the safe with you when booking. Or at least know the make/model so I can check mounting requirements. Some have specific bolt patterns.

Floor safes need prep. If you want one recessed into the floor, there might be additional work cutting through flooring and possibly concrete. I'll quote for this separately.

Old houses? Exeter's older properties often have thick stone walls - perfect for safe mounting, but expect drilling to take a bit longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where's the best place to install a safe?

Depends if you want it hidden or accessible. Popular spots are bedroom wardrobes (hidden), home offices (convenient), or utility rooms (out of way). I'll advise on what works structurally - you need a solid wall or floor to bolt into.

Can you hide it in my wardrobe or cupboard?

Yes - that's a common request. I can mount it to the back wall of a wardrobe or inside a cupboard. Just needs solid wall behind, not plasterboard. Makes it much harder to find but still accessible to you.

Do I need to supply the safe or can you get one?

Most people buy their own (John Lewis, Screwfix, Amazon etc) and I fit it. If you want advice on what to buy first, I'm happy to recommend based on what you're storing.

How long does safe installation take?

Usually 45 minutes to an hour for a standard wall-mounted safe. Floor safes take longer because of the base preparation. I'll give you a better estimate once I know the safe size and location.

Will it damage my wall or floor?

There'll be bolt holes, yes. For wall safes, usually 4 holes through the back. Floor safes need a hole cut for the body plus bolt holes. It's permanent fixing - that's what makes it secure. If you ever remove it, holes can be filled.
