💡 Pro tip: If one bathroom accessory has failed, others fitted at the same time probably will too. Worth checking towel rails, robe hooks, etc. while I'm there.
The Fix

🔧 DIY Tips
🔧 You'll need: Appropriate fixings for your wall type, filler for old holes, drill, spirit level
💡 Fixing it right:
- Work out your wall type first - plasterboard needs cavity fixings
- For plasterboard, try to hit a stud if possible (much stronger)
- Fill old holes properly before repositioning
- Don't reuse pulled-out holes - move slightly for fresh material
⚠️ Common mistakes: Using same inadequate fixings that failed originally, drilling back into filled holes, not moving to find solid fixing point
Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.
Good to Know
Multiple loose fittings? Common in bathrooms that were fitted quickly without proper fixings. I can go through and fix them all in one visit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do toilet roll holders come loose?
Usually the original fixings were inadequate - standard wall plugs in plasterboard, or fixings that missed the studs. Over time, weight and use pulls them out. Needs proper fixings for your wall type.
Can you fix it in the same position?
Sometimes - if there's solid wall nearby. Often the original position was wrong (no stud, or weak plasterboard), so I'll move it slightly to where I can get a solid fixing. Usually only a few cm difference - you won't notice.
What if the bracket is broken?
Then you need a new toilet roll holder - can't fix broken brackets. I can fit a replacement if you've got one, or advise on what to buy and come back to fit it.
Do I need to redecorate after?
Not usually. I'll fill the old holes neatly - they're small enough that a dab of filler and paint touch-up handles it. If you're planning to redecorate anyway, even better - won't show at all.
How long does the repair last?
Indefinitely if fitted properly. It's all about using the right fixings for your wall type. Proper plasterboard anchors or screwing into studs means it's not coming loose again.
