Spirit level and careful measuring. Mark both bracket positions at exactly the same height, check they're level with each other before drilling. Sounds simple but it's the difference between curtains that hang properly and curtains that look wonky.
Can you fit curtain poles to plasterboard walls?
Yes, but they need proper wall anchors - not just screws. Curtains and poles are heavy, especially when you pull them open and closed. I use heavy-duty fixings rated for the weight so poles don't pull out of the wall.
Do I need to buy the pole first?
Yes - measure your window and buy the right length pole (usually 20-30cm wider than the window), then I'll fit it level and secure. Metal or wooden poles, I fit both. If you're unsure what size to get, send me photos and measurements.
What if the brackets don't line up with solid wall?
That's where proper fixings come in. If one bracket lands on plasterboard and one on brick, I adjust the fixings accordingly - wall anchors for the plasterboard side, rawlplugs for the brick. Both end up equally strong.
