Why Choose Us for Dishwasher disconnection in Exeter?

Water supply safely shut off and capped

Waste hose disconnected properly

Machine ready to slide out

No mess or water spillage

What to Expect

Step 1: Turn Off Water

I find your isolation valve (usually under the kitchen sink where the dishwasher taps off the supply) and shut it off. No water flowing to the machine.

Step 2: Disconnect Supply

Undo the connection where the flexible hose meets the isolation valve. Bit of water might drip out of the hose but not much.

Step 3: Disconnect Waste

Unhook the waste hose from under the sink. Usually just pulls out of a connector. I'll have a towel ready for any dirty water that might dribble out.

Step 4: Free The Machine

Unscrew any brackets holding the dishwasher to the units. Now it's free to slide out whenever you're ready.

Step 5: Cap Off

Put caps on the isolation valve and waste connection so they're safe but ready for the next machine.

🔧 DIY Tips

Disconnecting a dishwasher is doable DIY:

🔧 Tools you'll need

  • Adjustable spanner or pliers
  • Screwdriver (for bracket screws)
  • Towels (for water drips)
  • Bucket (just in case)

💧 The process

  1. Turn off water - valve under sink, turn clockwise
  2. Turn off power - unplug machine or switch off at wall
  3. Open dishwasher door - run any water out of the sump
  4. Disconnect supply - undo hose from valve, have towel ready
  5. Disconnect waste - pull out of connector under sink
  6. Unscrew brackets - usually two screws into worktop or units
  7. Slide out carefully - watch for snagged hoses

⚠️ Common DIY mistakes

  • Not turning water off first (floods kitchen)
  • Yanking waste hose out (dirty water everywhere)
  • Forgetting about fixing brackets (can't slide machine out)
  • Not checking for cable tie-backs (hoses caught on something)

💡 Pro trick: Before disconnecting anything, take a photo of how the hoses connect. Makes reconnecting the new machine much easier - you've got a reference for which hose goes where.

When to call a pro: If the isolation valve's seized or won't turn off, don't force it. Call someone who can shut the mains off and replace the valve properly.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🔧 Getting a new dishwasher? I can disconnect the old one and connect the new one in the same visit. Just schedule it for when your new machine's being delivered.

Integrated dishwashers - have a door panel attached to match your kitchen. I'll disconnect the plumbing, but removing the door panel and refitting it to the new machine is usually a carpenter job (I can do it but takes longer).

No isolation valve? Some older kitchens don't have one - the dishwasher connects directly to the pipe. I can fit an isolation valve while I'm there so future disconnections are easier. Worth doing.

Waste connections - check under your sink after disconnection. If there's gunk or limescale buildup in the connector, worth cleaning it before connecting the new machine. Or I can fit a new connector.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a plumber to disconnect a dishwasher?

You don't have to, but it's safer. The water supply needs shutting off properly, connections need undoing without flooding your kitchen, and the waste needs disconnecting without spilling dirty water everywhere. Takes me 30 minutes, done properly with no mess.

Can I disconnect it myself then get you to connect the new one?

Yes, absolutely. Just turn off the water at the isolation valve (usually under the sink), undo the waste hose, unscrew the connectors. Leave the isolation valve and waste connection in place - I'll need them for the new machine.

Do I need to pull the old dishwasher out?

Not necessarily - I can disconnect it in place, then you can slide it out after. Or I can pull it out as part of the job if needed. Disconnecting it first makes removal easier because you're not fighting with hoses.

Will water pour out when you disconnect it?

Tiny bit from the hoses, but nothing major if I've turned the supply off properly. I'll have a towel ready to catch any drips. Much better than trying to do it yourself with water spraying everywhere.

What happens to the isolation valve after disconnection?

I cap it off so it's safe but ready for your next dishwasher. If you're not getting another dishwasher, I can remove the isolation valve completely and cap the pipe permanently.
