I'll fit an under-sink water filter to your kitchen - connected to existing or new tap, tucked away out of sight. Cleaner, better-tasting water on tap.
Better Water Without Buying Bottles
You're buying bottled water because tap water tastes of chlorine. Or you've got horrible limescale in your kettle. Or you just want cleaner drinking water without all the plastic waste. An under-sink filter sorts all that.
💡 Pro tip: A good under-sink filter saves you money long-term. Family drinking 4 litres of bottled water a day? That's £500+ a year. A filter system pays for itself in 6-12 months.
Why Under-Sink Filters Are Better
Compared to jug filters or on-tap filters:
| ✅ Under-Sink Filter | ❌ Jug/On-Tap Filter |
|---|---|
| Hidden away, looks tidy | Visible, clutters worktop/tap |
| Filters lots of water | Small capacity, refill constantly |
| Long-lasting cartridges (6-12 months) | Short life (weeks/months) |
| Good flow rate | Slow filtering, wait ages |
| Better filtration | Basic filtering only |

Why Choose Us for Water filter installation in Exeter?
Cleaner, better-tasting drinking water
Fitted under sink, out of sight
Connected to dedicated filter tap or main tap
Tested and working before I leave
What to Expect
Step 1: Plan The Installation
I'll check under your sink for space (it can get crowded under there), work out where the filter unit goes, and whether you want a separate tap or inline filtering.
Step 2: Fit The Filter Unit
Mount it securely under the sink (usually on the side panel or back), connect a tee piece into your cold supply, run a line to the filter.
Step 3: Connect To Tap
Either tee into your existing cold tap (so all cold water is filtered), or drill a hole for a dedicated filter tap. Test flow rate and check for leaks.
Step 4: Flush & Test
Run water through for a few minutes to flush out the new cartridge (manufacturers recommend this), check everything's working, show you how to change filters in future.
🔧 DIY Tips
Water filter installation is intermediate DIY - doable if you're confident with plumbing:
🔧 Tools you'll need
- Adjustable spanner
- Drill (+ diamond core bit if drilling granite)
- Hole saw (for sink/worktop holes)
- PTFE tape
- Screwdriver
- Possibly a tee piece for cold supply
🔩 How to do it
- Turn off water at stopcock
- Drain cold tap
- Fit tee piece into cold supply under sink
- Mount filter unit on side of cupboard
- Connect supply to filter inlet
- Connect filter outlet to tap (existing or new)
- Turn water back on slowly
- Check for leaks
- Flush filter as per manufacturer instructions
⚠️ Common DIY mistakes
- Not enough space under sink (measure first!)
- Forgetting to turn water off (wet cupboard)
- Cross-threading plastic fittings (leaks)
- Not flushing new cartridge (tastes weird)
- Drilling tap hole in wrong place (can't undo this!)
💡 Pro trick: If you're installing a separate filter tap, position it close to the main tap but not so close they clash when turning. About 15-20cm away usually works well.
Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.
Good to Know
🔧 What does it actually filter? Depends on the system. Basic carbon filters remove chlorine, improves taste. Multi-stage filters also remove heavy metals, sediment, some bacteria. Reverse osmosis removes almost everything including minerals. Tell me what you want removed and I'll recommend the right system.
Cartridge changing is DIY-able - usually just unscrew the old cartridge, screw in new one. Takes 2 minutes. I'll show you how when I install it. Set a phone reminder for 6 months time so you don't forget.
Water pressure - filters slow the flow slightly. Good quality ones barely noticeable. Cheap ones can reduce flow to a trickle. Worth spending a bit more for decent flow rate.
Combi boiler? Some filter systems don't like the pressure from combi boilers. I'll check your setup and recommend a compatible system. Pressure reduction valves available if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between under-sink and on-tap filters?
Under-sink filters hide away in the cupboard and either connect to your main tap or a separate filter tap. On-tap filters screw onto the existing tap and are visible. Under-sink ones filter more water, last longer, and look much better - but cost a bit more.
Do I need a separate tap for filtered water?
Not necessarily. Some systems connect inline to your existing cold tap (so all cold water is filtered). Others use a dedicated little tap just for drinking water (so you're not filtering washing-up water). Depends what you want and what space you've got.
Will you supply the filter unit?
I can, or you can buy it yourself. There's a huge range - basic carbon filters, reverse osmosis systems, mineralization filters. Tell me what you want filtered out (chlorine, limescale, heavy metals) and I'll recommend something suitable.
How often do filters need changing?
Depends on the system - usually 6-12 months. Most have a cartridge you replace yourself (just unscrew, swap, done). I'll show you how when I install it. Some systems have indicator lights to tell you when they need changing.
Can you fit it if I've got a granite worktop?
Yes, though drilling granite for a separate tap costs extra (need diamond core bit, takes longer). If you don't want holes drilled, we can do an inline filter on your existing tap instead.
