Clocks set to the correct time, wherever they are and however awkward. High wall clocks, built-in oven clocks, anything you can't safely reach or figure out yourself.

Sometimes the Simple Stuff Is the Hardest

That kitchen clock's been wrong for 6 months. The hallway clock stopped when you had a power cut. The oven clock flashes 00:00 and you've given up trying to set it.

Here's the thing: you could drag out the stepladder, balance precariously, and fiddle with tiny buttons 8 feet up. Or you could get someone who does this regularly and won't end up in A&E.

💡 Pro tip: This service is hugely popular with elderly residents who can't safely use ladders anymore but hate living with wrong clocks. Also popular after British Summer Time changes when you've got 12 clocks to adjust.

What to Expect

Step 1: Survey

Quick look at which clocks need doing, how high they are, what type they are (analogue, digital, built-in appliance).

Step 2: Set Everything

Use proper ladder/step stool, set each clock to the correct time. Change batteries if needed. Test everything works.

Step 3: Show You How

If it's a digital clock with a sequence (oven, microwave, boiler timer), I show you the button combo and write it down for next time.

🔧 DIY Tips

Look, if your clocks are accessible and you're steady on your feet, you don't need me. But here's how to do it safely:

🔧 For high wall clocks

  • Use a proper stepladder, not a chair
  • Have someone hold the ladder base
  • Take the clock off the wall, bring it down to set it
  • While it's down, change the battery (saves doing this again in 6 months)

🔧 For built-in appliance clocks

  • Find the manual (or Google "[oven model] clock setting")
  • It's usually some combo of holding Clock + Plus/Minus buttons
  • Write down the sequence for next time
  • Some ovens have a 'quick set' if you hold buttons down for ages

⚠️ Don't

  • Balance on wheelie chairs
  • Lean ladders against walls at unsafe angles
  • Stretch beyond your reach
  • Attempt it if you're wobbly on your feet

💡 Pro trick: Twice a year (BST changes), set a reminder on your phone to do all your clocks at once. Easier than doing them as you remember them over 3 weeks.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

👴 Elderly or unsteady? This service exists specifically for people who shouldn't be climbing ladders. No judgment, no fuss, just clocks that tell the right time again.

Care homes / sheltered housing: I do regular clock setting for several care facilities around Exeter. BST changes, power cuts, new batteries - keep residents' clocks right without staff needing ladders.

Twice yearly service: Some customers have me come out every BST/GMT change (March and October) to do all the clocks in one go. Costs £60 twice a year, saves endless faff with stepladders.

Multiple properties? Landlords sometimes book me to do several properties in a day after power cuts or time changes. Cheaper than your letting agent doing it (and they'll charge you more than I will).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this actually a service people need?

You'd be surprised. High kitchen clocks, awkward hallway clocks, clocks built into ovens or microwaves with impossible button sequences, clocks in care homes where residents can't reach them. Plus after every power cut, someone's got to reset the lot.

Can't I just use a stepladder?

You could. But if you're elderly, unsteady, or just sensible enough to think 'falling off a stepladder to adjust a clock is a stupid way to end up in A&E', then yeah, call me. I've got proper ladders and working-at-height experience.

Will you do all the clocks in the house?

Absolutely. Once I'm there with ladders up, might as well do the lot - after all, they all need changing for BST/GMT twice a year anyway. I'll do them all for the same callout fee.

What if the clock needs a new battery as well?

I carry common clock batteries (AA, AAA, C, D). If your clock needs one, I'll fit it while I'm up there. Batteries are a couple of quid each on top of the callout.

My oven clock resets every time there's a power cut - can you show me how to set it?

Yes - I'll set it and show you the button sequence so you can do it yourself next time. Those built-in oven/microwave clocks have the most baffling interfaces known to humanity. I'll write the steps down if it helps.
