How long does lead flashing repair take?

How do I know if my fascia needs replacing?
Soft or flaking wood when you press it, gutters pulling away from the wall, visible rot or water damage. On older houses, if the paint keeps peeling no matter how often you repaint it, the timber's gone underneath.
Do you use the same mortar as the original?
On older Exeter houses, the original is usually lime mortar. I match it - using hard cement mortar on old bricks causes more problems than it solves. The mortar should be softer than the bricks so it protects them.
What type of cap do you fit?
