Old mattress collected from your home and disposed of properly. No van hire, no struggling down stairs, no trip to the tip yourself.

Because Getting Rid of a Mattress is a Pain

New mattress delivered? Great. Old one still propped against your bedroom wall because you don't have a van big enough and the tip won't take it unless you book a slot?

💡 Pro tip: When you order a new mattress, some retailers offer disposal for £20-30. If they don't, or you've missed that option, getting it collected separately is still easier than hiring a van.

Why Choose Us for Mattress disposal in Exeter?

Collected from your home

Taken to proper disposal facility

No van hire needed

Stairs and awkward access handled

What to Expect

Step 1: Collection

I'll come to your house, work out the best route out (sometimes windows are easier than stairs!), and get the mattress to the van.

Step 2: Load & Secure

Mattress loaded safely in the van. If you've got other stuff to go at the same time, we'll take that too.

Step 3: Disposal

Taken to the recycling centre and disposed of properly. Many centres now recycle mattress components rather than just landfill.

🔧 DIY Tips

Want to do it yourself? Here's what you're in for:

🔧 What you need

  • Van or large vehicle (mattress won't fit in most cars)
  • Rope or straps to secure it
  • Second person to help lift
  • Booking at some recycling centres
  • Maybe disposal fee (some centres charge)

📐 Getting it out

  1. Measure doorways and stair width first
  2. Remove mattress protector/sheets
  3. Stand mattress on its side
  4. Two people - one each end
  5. Tilt and rotate through tight spaces
  6. Protect walls with cardboard at corners
  7. Tie securely in van - mattresses catch wind!

⚠️ Common DIY mistakes

  • Thinking it'll fit in a car (it won't)
  • One person trying to carry it (too awkward)
  • Not protecting walls (mattress corners scratch paintwork)
  • Not securing it in van (blows off!)
  • Turning up at tip without checking requirements

💡 Pro trick: Mattress protectors or old sheets work great for wrapping the mattress for transport - stops it getting muddy or damaging your van interior.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🎨 Multiple mattresses? Common when clearing a house or upgrading kids' beds. I can take several in one trip - works out cheaper than multiple journeys.

Other furniture? If you're getting rid of a mattress, often the bed frame's going too. I can take both, plus any other furniture you're clearing. One trip, everything gone.

Recycling centres differ - some accept mattresses free, some charge, some need booking. I know which ones take what and handle all that hassle for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does mattress disposal cost?

Usually £60-£85 depending on size and access. That covers collection from your home, transport, and disposal fees at the recycling centre. Single mattress is cheaper than a king size, ground floor is easier than upstairs.

Do I need to wrap the mattress or prepare it?

No - I'll take it as is. If it's really grotty you might want to wrap it in plastic sheeting for the journey, but not required. I've got protection in the van.

Can you take it from upstairs?

Yes - that's half the point of the service. Mattresses are awkward and heavy, especially down narrow stairs. I'll get it down safely without damaging your walls or bannisters.

What if it's a really big or heavy mattress?

King size or super king are fine - just take a bit longer to maneuver. Memory foam mattresses are heavier but manageable. If it's something really unusual (waterbed, hospital bed) let me know when you call so I can plan appropriately.

Can you take other stuff at the same time?

Sure - old bed frame, pillows, other rubbish. There's a disposal fee for the tip run (covers time and tip charges), but if I'm going anyway it makes sense to take everything in one go.
