Horsebox cleaned inside and out. Mucked out, swept, washed, and left ready for your next journey - whether that's competition, hunting, or general hacking.

Nobody Likes Cleaning Out Horseboxes

Mucking out a horsebox is proper graft - scraping floors, hauling muck, washing down in all weathers. If you'd rather spend your time riding than scrubbing out your box, I'll sort it.

💡 Pro tip: Regular cleaning prevents build-up that damages floors and makes deep cleans a nightmare. But I've dealt with horseboxes that haven't been properly done in years.

🔧 DIY Tips

Horsebox cleaning is one you can definitely do yourself:

🔧 What you need

  • Shavings fork and shovel
  • Stiff brush or yard broom
  • Bucket and sponge
  • Hose or pressure washer
  • Wheelbarrow

🛠️ Efficient cleaning

  1. Remove all muck and bedding first
  2. Sweep from front to back (toward ramp)
  3. Scrape stuck-on muck with edge of shovel
  4. Wash walls from top down
  5. Rinse floor thoroughly
  6. Leave ramp down to air dry

⚠️ Common mistakes

  • Not lifting matting regularly (rots floor underneath)
  • Using too much water (takes forever to dry)
  • Forgetting to clean partition gaps (muck builds up)
  • Not checking drain holes (get blocked)

💡 Pro trick: Sprinkle sawdust on wet muck before sweeping - absorbs moisture and makes it way easier to clear out. Old racing yard trick.

Rather leave it to a pro? No problem - that's what I'm here for. Give me a call.

Good to Know

🔧 Competition season? Book regular cleans to keep on top of it. Much easier than massive end-of-season deep clean.

Floor condition: While cleaning, I'll check your floor condition. Rotting rubber matting or damaged floors are common - I'll let you know if something needs attention.

Devon weather: Try to get boxes cleaned on dry days if possible - they dry out faster. But I'll do it in any weather if you need it sorted.

Disposal: Most people have a muck heap I can barrow to. If you need muck removing from site, that's an extra charge depending on volume and disposal location.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in a horsebox clean?

Full muck out - sweep and scrape the floor, clean walls and partitions, wash down exterior, clean ramp and fixtures. If you want matting lifted and cleaned underneath, just mention it when booking.

Do I need to provide water and power?

Water definitely helps - either a hose or I'll bring water in containers. Don't need power for most jobs. If your horsebox is really caked, a pressure washer makes life easier but not essential.

Can you clean livestock trailers and cattle boxes?

Yes - same process really. Muck out, scrub down, wash exterior. Livestock trailers are often messier than horseboxes so might take longer, but I'll give you a quote based on condition.

How long does it take?

Light clean after a single journey - about 2 hours. Full deep clean after competition season or winter - 3-4 hours. Depends how caked it is really.

Will you dispose of the muck?

If you've got a muck heap or area to put it, I'll barrow it there. If you need it removing from site, that's extra - depends on volume and where I need to take it.
