Flooring
Transform your rooms with professionally laid flooring. Clean, precise installation with minimal disruption.
18 services available across Exeter and surrounding areas.

New flooring transforms a room, but only if it's laid properly. Clicks that don't quite click, expansion gaps that show, transitions that trip - poor installation ruins the effect. We lay laminate, vinyl, and engineered wood flooring with proper preparation, correct expansion gaps, and neat finishing. We'll trim doors to clear the new floor height and fit thresholds between rooms.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?
Sam lays flooring with patience and precision. He won't rush a job and leave you with clicking joints or visible gaps. He'll also advise honestly if your subfloor needs work before new flooring goes down.

Common Questions About Flooring
Do I need scotia with laminate flooring?
You need something to cover the expansion gap - either scotia or you remove the skirting and refit it over the floor. Scotia is quicker and cheaper because you're not touching the skirting. It's the standard finish for most laminate and LVT installations.
What causes laminate to get damaged?
Water is the main culprit - spills that aren't wiped up quickly, leaks, or high humidity make laminate swell and warp. Heavy impacts can chip or crack boards. Sometimes it's just wear in high traffic areas. If there's an underlying issue like damp, that needs sorting first or the new boards will fail too.
Can you fix gaps between laminate boards?
Depends what's causing them. If boards have shrunk due to low humidity, the gaps might close up when moisture levels rise. If the floor wasn't fitted with proper expansion gaps and it's shifted, I might be able to tap boards back together. But if boards are damaged or the locking system is broken, they'll need replacing.
Can you fit carpet on stairs?
Yes, stairs are no problem. They take a bit longer because of the cutting and tucking involved, but we've done hundreds of staircases. Costs a bit more than flat areas due to the extra time.
Do you have to lift the whole floor to replace one board?
Not usually. If the damaged board is near an edge or in the first few rows, I can work from there. If it's in the middle of a room, I might need to lift boards back to it, replace the damaged one, then relay them. It's more work, but still cheaper than replacing the whole floor.
How long does fitting carpet gripper take?
A typical room - living room or bedroom - takes about an hour once I'm set up. Larger rooms or awkward shapes take longer. If the floor needs prep work (like removing old gripper or levelling), that adds time.
