Flooring
Transform your rooms with professionally laid flooring. Clean, precise installation with minimal disruption.
18 services available across Exeter and surrounding areas.

New flooring transforms a room, but only if it's laid properly. Clicks that don't quite click, expansion gaps that show, transitions that trip - poor installation ruins the effect. We lay laminate, vinyl, and engineered wood flooring with proper preparation, correct expansion gaps, and neat finishing. We'll trim doors to clear the new floor height and fit thresholds between rooms.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?
Sam lays flooring with patience and precision. He won't rush a job and leave you with clicking joints or visible gaps. He'll also advise honestly if your subfloor needs work before new flooring goes down.

Common Questions About Flooring
How long before I can walk on the floor after sanding?
You can walk on it immediately after sanding - that's just the prep work. But if I'm varnishing afterwards, you'll need to stay off it while it dries. Water-based varnish dries in a few hours; oil-based takes longer. I'll give you specific timing when we discuss finishes.
What's the difference between threshold types?
Flat bars work for floors at the same height. Ramp profiles cover height differences (like carpet to tile). Reducer strips taper down from one floor to another. We'll recommend the right one when we see the job.
What's better - oil-based or water-based varnish?
Oil-based varnish is harder wearing and gives a warm amber tone to the wood, but it takes longer to dry and smells pretty strong. Water-based varnish dries faster, doesn't smell as much, and keeps the wood colour natural, but it's not quite as tough. For high-traffic areas, I'd go oil-based. For bedrooms, water-based is fine.
Will you need to trim the door?
Sometimes. If your new floor is thicker than the old one, the door might catch. I'll check clearance and can trim doors if needed - that's a separate job though, so I'll let you know beforehand.
Can you fit them over underfloor heating?
Yes, we use adhesive or track-fixing methods that don't penetrate the heating system. We'll check what's underneath before drilling.
How long before I can use the floor after sealing?
Sealer needs to cure before getting wet. Usually 24-48 hours depending on the product. We'll give you exact timings and recommendations when we finish.
