How long does a replacement panel last?
Pressure-treated panels should give you 10-15 years if the posts are good and they're fitted properly. Cheap untreated panels won't make 5 years. Devon weather's hard on fencing - quality timber matters.
Do you bury wire to stop foxes digging under?
Absolutely, that's essential if you want it fox-proof. I dig a trench, run the wire down about 30cm and bend it outwards at the bottom before backfilling. Foxes dig down and hit the wire, then give up. Without this, they'll be under your fence in no time.
Can you fix a rotten gate or does it need replacing?
Depends how far gone it is. If it's just the bottom rail that's rotten, I can often repair it. If the whole gate is falling apart, replacement's usually the better option. I'll tell you honestly what's worth doing - I'm not going to patch up something that'll fail again in six months.
How much noise will acoustic fencing actually block?
Honestly? It'll reduce noise but won't eliminate it completely. A good acoustic fence can cut noise by 5-10 decibels, which is noticeable - makes traffic sound about half as loud. But if you're right next to the M5 or A38, it'll help but won't give you total silence. It's about making your garden more usable, not soundproofing it completely.
Can you match my existing fence panels?
Usually yes - standard panel sizes and styles are easy to match. If your fence is unusual or old, matching might be harder. I'll do my best to find something close, or we can discuss replacing a few panels so they all match. Photos help.
Can you replace just one gravel board or do you need to do the whole fence?
We can do individual boards - no problem. But if one's gone, the others are probably not far behind if they're the same age. We'll check them all and let you know honestly what needs doing now and what can wait. Some people do them all at once, others spread it over time.
