Fix wobbly slabs, cracked paving, and worn pointing. Keep your paths and patios safe and looking good.
17 services available across Exeter and surrounding areas.

Paving takes a beating from weather, use, and time. Slabs become loose and wobbly, pointing washes out, cracks appear, and surfaces become slippery with algae. We repair and maintain paved areas - resetting loose slabs, replacing damaged ones, repointing gaps, and cleaning surfaces. We're not landscapers doing new installations, but we'll keep your existing paving safe and looking good.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?

Common Questions About Paving
What does patio sealing actually do?
It puts a protective layer on your paving that repels water, oil, and stains. This stops stuff soaking in (red wine, BBQ grease, leaf stains), makes the surface easier to clean, and slows down moss growth. It also enhances the colour - particularly noticeable on Indian sandstone and natural stone.
How long before I can walk on repaired path sections?
You can walk carefully on re-laid slabs after 24 hours. Full heavy use, give it 2-3 days to let everything settle and the pointing to cure properly. I'll let you know the exact timing when I'm done.
Can you lay a patio on my sloping Exeter garden?
Yes - sloping gardens are really common around here. Options are: build up a level platform with retaining edge, create terraced levels with steps, or follow the natural slope with designed falls. We'll work out what suits your space and budget best.
Will replacing a slab disturb the ones around it?
Not if done carefully - which is how I work. I rake out the pointing first, then lever the slab out without touching adjacent ones. They stay put and undisturbed. It's only the broken one that comes out.
What's involved in laying a new path?
It's more than just slapping slabs down. I excavate to the right depth, put in a proper sub-base (compacted hardcore), add a sand layer, then lay your chosen paving material level and secure. The groundwork is what makes it last.
Can you just fix the dodgy areas or does the whole patio need replacing?
Most of the time I can just repair the problem areas. Lift the affected slabs, sort out the base underneath, re-lay them level with the rest. Much cheaper than starting from scratch and you genuinely can't tell which bits were repaired once it's done.
