It's the lead sheet that seals the joint between your chimney (or wall) and the roof. It fails when the mortar it's tucked into crumbles, when it cracks from movement, or when it wasn't fitted properly to begin with. Common problem on older houses.
How long does replacement take?
Usually half a day to a full day depending on how much needs doing and how high it is. I work safely off ladders or small scaffold tower for higher properties.
Do you check the rest of the roofline while you're up there?
Always. I'll let you know if your fascia or soffit boards are dodgy too - better to catch problems early than wait for more damage. No charge for a quick look while I'm already set up.
Is it just the damaged panel that needs replacing?
Depends on the cladding system. Some panels overlap and interlock, so you might need to remove a few to get at the damaged one. I'll assess what's actually needed and explain before starting.
How long does chimney repointing take?
Half a day to a full day typically, depending on how much of the stack needs doing and how bad the damage is. Sometimes just the top section, sometimes the whole stack from roof level up.
