Common Questions About Windows
Will window film make my room dark?
Depends on the film. Privacy/frosted films let loads of light through - just diffuse it so you can't see in/out clearly. UV and solar films reduce glare a bit but you still get plenty of light. I'll bring samples so you can see.
Can you match my existing window handles?
Usually yes. I'll try to match colour (white, black, gold, chrome, etc) and style as closely as possible. Some older handles aren't made anymore, so I'll get the nearest equivalent. Function is most important but I aim to match aesthetics too.
Will door draught proofing really make a difference?
Massive difference. Doors are one of the biggest sources of heat loss in any house. You can literally feel cold air blowing through the gaps. Seal them properly and rooms feel warmer immediately. Customers always say they wish they'd done it years ago.
How many restrictors does each window need?
Usually one per opening section. So a standard casement window needs one, but if you've got a big window with two opening sections, that's two restrictors. I'll assess your windows and tell you exactly what's needed.
How much does it cost to replace a misted double glazed unit?
Depends on the size and glass spec. A standard bedroom window might be £150-200 for the unit and fitting. Large patio door could be £400+. I need to measure and check the glass spec (thickness, toughened, low-E coating etc) to give an accurate quote.
What exactly is secondary glazing?
It's a second window fitted on the inside of your existing window. Creates an insulating air gap between the two panes. Much cheaper than replacing original windows with double glazing, and keeps your original features intact. Perfect for listed buildings where you can't change the windows.
