Common Questions About Windows
How much difference does cleaning actually make?
Huge. A dirty skylight can block 30-50% of the light. Clean it properly and you'll wonder why you put up with the gloom for so long. Makes a real difference to loft rooms and extensions.
Can you do it for any type of window frame?
Most types yes - UPVC, timber, aluminium. The trickiest are really old or non-standard frames where the glazing system is unusual. I'll assess and tell you honestly if it's doable. Some very old windows are better fully replaced because the frames are shot too.
Does it stop post getting through?
Not at all - the brush bristles part easily when post is pushed through, but spring back to seal the gap. Your postie won't even notice it's there. Same with takeaway menus and all the junk mail you didn't ask for.
Will a letterbox excluder actually make much difference?
Oh yes. Letterboxes are basically a permanent hole through your front door. Every time the wind blows, cold air blasts straight into your hall. A good brush seal stops that completely. You'll notice the difference the first cold morning.
Can I clean my own skylight?
Inside yes, outside is trickier unless you're comfortable on ladders and roofs. Most people clean the inside annually and get someone in for the outside every 2-3 years when it gets really bad.
Can you fix windows that won't close properly?
Usually yes - it's often misaligned hinges or a worn lock mechanism. I'll adjust what I can and replace what's beyond saving. Proper operation and security are both essential.
