Common Questions About Windows
Will I still be able to use my key?
Absolutely. The cover is spring-loaded so you push it aside with your key, unlock the door, and it springs back into place. Takes about two seconds to get used to.
Can you match my existing window handles?
Usually yes. I'll try to match colour (white, black, gold, chrome, etc) and style as closely as possible. Some older handles aren't made anymore, so I'll get the nearest equivalent. Function is most important but I aim to match aesthetics too.
Can you fix my leaking Velux?
Yes - most Velux leaks are seal failure or flashing issues. I'll check both, replace seals if needed, and make sure the flashing kit is doing its job. Nine times out of ten it's a much cheaper fix than you'd think.
Will a new handle fix my window if it won't close properly?
Depends on the problem. If the handle mechanism is broken, yes. If the window has dropped or the frame is twisted, a new handle won't help - that's a bigger job. I'll diagnose the actual problem honestly. No point selling you a handle if that's not what's wrong.
Is it worth repairing an old Velux or should I replace it?
Unless the frame is rotted or the glass has failed, repair is almost always cheaper. Velux windows are built to last - I've fixed 20-year-old windows that are good for another decade with just new seals and a handle.
Do both hinges need replacing or just the broken one?
If one's failed, the other is usually not far behind. I'd recommend doing both at once - they've had the same wear, and it's daft to pay twice for what's essentially the same job.
