Electrical
From changing light fittings to adding extra sockets, we handle everyday electrical jobs safely and efficiently.
23 services available across Exeter and surrounding areas.

Electrical work requires care and knowledge. While we handle everyday electrical tasks like fitting lights, adding sockets, and installing ceiling fans, we know our limits and won't attempt work that requires a qualified electrician. For the jobs we do take on, safety is paramount - proper isolation, correct fittings, and thorough testing. We're happy to recommend qualified electricians for larger jobs.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?

Common Questions About Electrical
What about PIR sensors?
Motion-sensor lights are brilliant for security and convenience. We fit lights with built-in PIR or add separate sensors. They can be adjusted for sensitivity and duration.
Can I use a plug-in rail?
Possible but not ideal for bathrooms. Trailing cables near water are risky. Hardwired installation with a fused spur is safer and neater.
Why do my dimmed lights buzz?
Usually incompatible dimmer and bulbs. LED dimmers with non-dimmable LEDs, or old leading-edge dimmers with LED bulbs. Right combination = silent operation.
How high should a cooker hood be?
650-750mm above an electric hob, 750-800mm above gas. High enough for access, close enough to catch the steam. We position it correctly.
Why is my tube flickering?
Either the tube is dying or the starter is failing. We check both. Sometimes tubes just need replacing, sometimes the whole fitting needs attention. We diagnose properly.
How long is an EICR valid?
5 years for rental properties. Homeowners should check every 10 years, or when buying/selling. The certificate shows the recommended retest date.
