27 services available across Exeter and surrounding areas.

Devon storms take their toll on fences. Panels blow out, posts rot through, and gates sag on their hinges. Whether you need a quick repair after bad weather or complete fence replacement, we'll get your boundaries secure again. We work with all fence types - closeboard, panel, picket, and trellis - and can advise on the best options for your situation and budget.
Why Choose Hembury Contracting?
Sam repairs fences properly, not just cosmetically. He'll check post condition, ensure panels are secure, and advise if underlying problems need addressing. Quick fixes that blow down in the next storm aren't his style.

Common Questions About Fencing
Is close board fencing more expensive than panels?
Yeah, it costs more upfront because it's more materials and labour. But over the long run it works out cheaper - lasts twice as long and doesn't need constant repairs. If you want fencing that'll still be standing in 20 years, close board is the way.
Do I need to sort out the boundary first?
Yes - you need to know where your boundary actually is before we install. If there's any doubt, get it checked. I won't install a fence that might be on someone else's land. Once you're clear on the line, I'll work to that.
How much noise will acoustic fencing actually block?
Honestly? It'll reduce noise but won't eliminate it completely. A good acoustic fence can cut noise by 5-10 decibels, which is noticeable - makes traffic sound about half as loud. But if you're right next to the M5 or A38, it'll help but won't give you total silence. It's about making your garden more usable, not soundproofing it completely.
Concrete posts or timber posts - which is better?
Concrete lasts forever and never rots, but it's heavier to work with and more expensive. Timber looks better and is cheaper, but it'll rot eventually - maybe 15-20 years if it's pressure-treated. For most domestic fencing, treated timber posts are fine. For long-term or where you've got heavy gates, concrete's worth it.
What makes acoustic fencing different from normal fencing?
It's heavier, denser, and taller. Normal fence panels have gaps and are quite lightweight - sound goes through easily. Acoustic fencing uses thick timber, overlapped boards with no gaps, and is built taller - usually 6ft minimum. The more mass and the fewer gaps, the better it blocks sound. Sometimes we add a layer behind the boards for extra dampening.
Will a concrete spur last as long as replacing the post?
If it's done properly, yeah. The concrete spur goes in the ground where the rot happens, and the original post stays above ground where it's fine. I've seen spurs still solid after 15 years. As long as the post itself is decent above ground, it'll outlast you.
