Common Questions About Fencing
What if more than one panel is damaged?
Same approach, just scales up. Multiple panels in one visit is usually cheaper per panel than doing them separately - I'm already there with tools and materials. Let me know how many need doing when you enquire.
Does it need to be really tall to work?
Height helps, especially if the noise source is above you like a nearby road on an embankment. For traffic noise at the same level, 6ft is decent, 7-8ft is better. Planning permission kicks in over 2 metres (about 6'7") for most boundaries, so we often build to just under that. Taller is better for sound, but you need to work within planning rules.
How long before the concrete sets?
I'll tell you to leave it 24 hours before putting any weight on the fence. After that it's solid. The concrete goes off in a couple of hours really, but better safe than sorry with fence panels pushing on it.
How long before I can use the gate after repair?
Most repairs are ready immediately. If I've had to use concrete or fix posts in the ground, I'll let you know how long to leave it - usually 24 hours to be safe. But simple hinge fixes and adjustments? You can use it straight away.
Can you fix a rotten post without replacing the whole fence?
Usually yes. If the panels are still good, I can replace just the damaged posts. Sometimes means temporarily removing panels to get the post out, but it's much cheaper than replacing everything. I'll assess and tell you honestly what's needed.
What if the gate posts are rotten too?
We'll check the posts when we remove the old gate. If they're dodgy, we'll let you know there and then. We can replace one or both posts as needed - it just adds time to the job. Better to sort it all at once than have a new gate on wobbly posts.
